Narratives: The Julie Sessions is a collaborative residency and the third part of our Conversations Series. Artists from Venture Arts, and other artists selected by open call, have worked alongside each other since April this year, exploring cultural heritage, personal influences and stories. The artists have taken inspiration from the overwhelming style and character of the club in which the residency was run, as well as huge comedy, reggae and supper club influences of group idols such as Sid James, Sparrow Martin, Julee Cruise and Julie London. The full project exhibition will launch at the Lowry in January 2023.
Narratives is part of Explorers Project, a dynamic collaborative programme of art and action, led by Project Art Works. This project is run with support from other key partners; Ahmed Iqbal Ullah Race Relations Centre, Castlefield Gallery, The Lowry and Manchester Jewish Museum.
